Samos, Greece
A hillside that was never flattened
Casa Cook Samos sits on a slope above the island's northern coast, and the building follows the land instead of levelling it. Rooms step down in terraces. Almost every one looks out across pine, scrub and open water.

Venice, Italy
A palace that keeps the upper hand
Few hotels hold a building of this order. Aman Venice occupies Palazzo Papadopoli, a sixteenth-century palace on the Grand Canal, and much of what makes it remarkable was already there — Tiepolo frescoes, gilded stucco, ceilings restored rather than reinvented.

Kaplankaya, Turkey
A headland arranged as landscape
Kaplankaya occupies a headland on the Turkish Aegean, Bodrum to the south and open water ahead. Architecture is low and horizontal — local stone, weathered timber, deep overhangs — and the buildings sit far enough apart that the site reads as landscape first.
