Aman Venice

Few hotels hold a building of this order. Aman Venice occupies Palazzo Papadopoli, a sixteenth-century palace on the Grand Canal, and much of what makes it remarkable was already there — Tiepolo frescoes, gilded stucco, ceilings restored rather than reinvented.

The restoration took a clear position: the palace wins. Contemporary furniture is sparse and low so it never competes with the plasterwork, lighting stays soft, and modern interventions read as modern instead of imitating the period.

Two private gardens are a genuine rarity in a city where ground-level open space barely exists. Arrival by water sets the tone for everything after. San Polo puts the Rialto within walking distance without the property ever feeling exposed to the crowd.
